New Military Veterans Consent Question
In compliance with California Assembly Bill 305 (AB305) a new optional question has been added to the Military & Dependents of Military section of the CCCApply Standard Application. This field does not appear in the Noncredit Application.
This bill (AB 305) “requires specified governmental agencies to include, at their next scheduled update, an additional question on their intake and application forms, except as provided, to determine whether a person is affiliated with the Armed Forces of the United States. The bill requires those agencies…to request permission from that person to transmit their contact information to the Department of Veterans Affairs so that the person may be notified of potential eligibility to receive state and federal veterans benefits.”
This optional checkbox question displays only if the applicant selects any response other than “None apply to me” in the existing U.S. Military status question in that section.
If displayed, the new question prompt reads, “Would you like to be contacted about state and federal benefits to Veterans and their family members?” above an optional checkbox and the following consent language, “I consent to this agency transmitting my name, email address, mailing address, and mobile telephone number to the Department of Veterans Affairs only for the purpose of receiving additional information on veterans benefits for which I may be eligible. I understand that this consent is valid for 12 months.”
If checked Yes, the applicant’s contact information is delivered to CalVet on the college’s behalf. Responses to the new flag, <military_veteran_consent>, a boolean field, are not stored or delivered via Glue for Apply.
Note: The California Community Colleges Technology Center (CCCTC) is responsible for sending student contact information to CalVet. Colleges are not expected to provide this information.
