Release Summary
New Account Recovery Option using the CA DMV Wallet
With this release, students who have forgotten their password and lost access to their email or the mobile device used to create their OpenCCC student account can immediately recover their account by validating their ID using the CA DMV Wallet. This self-service account recovery option eliminates the need for students with a valid CA driver's license or ID card to call or email student support staff in order to prove their identity and recover their account, giving them faster access to CCCApply.
How does it work?
The new DMV Wallet option for identity verification is presented to students as an account recovery option when they click the “Forgot Your Password?” link from the OpenCCC student account system sign-in page. Students are then guided to choose the verification option that works best for them. See the Student and Staff Resources section below for links to the complete set of documentation on recovering a student account and using the CA DMV Wallet for ID verification.
Complete instructions on recovering OpenCCC student accounts are here: How to Recover Your OpenCCC Student Account

Pilot Testing: Student Account Recovery using the DMV Wallet Verification Process
The Pilot environment is a sandbox environment for colleges to preview upcoming releases and test custom configurations.
Following the deployment of the new CA DMV Wallet verification pilot release, colleges are encouraged to preview the changes in their college’s pilot environment, a sandbox for college testing. No formal college training or testing activities are scheduled during the pilot preview period; however, colleges are encouraged to provide feedback to your College Experience Manager (CEM) or get support from the CCCTC Staff Support team.
Getting to the Pilot Environment
Colleges may review the changes using the CCCApply pilot test college.
Alternatively, you may navigate to your college-branded pilot application by replacing the last three digits of the link above (ZZ1) with your unique college MIS code. Remember to update both the link text and the URL.
Steps to Test
To test the CA DMV Wallet mDL ID Verification process:
Start in Pilot OpenCCC
Navigate to an existing OpenCCC pilot account (or create a new account first, then sign out and follow step 2).
Note: Your identity verification status must be “Never Verified” or “Unverified” in order to test this process.
Select “Forgot Your Password?” from the sign-in page.
Choose DMV Wallet
Select the CA DMV Wallet option to recover your student account.
Open the DMV Wallet on your mobile device if you have previously used it, or download the DMV Wallet app using one of the buttons provided.
If you download the CA DMV Wallet, you will need to configure it with your CA Drivers License or ID Card. The DMV website has instructions on setting up your CA DMV Wallet here: How to get started with DMV Wallet.
Using the QR scanner within the CA DMV Wallet, Scan the QR code that appears on your screen to verify your identity.
After successful verification, you will be automatically redirected to your OpenCCC student account, where you can reset your password and update any other profile information that may have changed. Your OpenCCC profile will display a "Verified" status to show that you verified your identity.
Report any issues encountered during your testing. Send feedback or report any bugs with our CCCTC Staff Support team: staffsupportccctc@openccc.zendesk.com.
