Release Summary

OpenCCC Account Updates

ID Verified Users Become Un-Verified Due to Change or Removal of Social Security Number

An additional security measure was added to the ID verification process in OpenCCC that will Un-Verify an ID Verified user if they edit or remove their existing Social Security Number on the Edit Account page. This change does not pertain to user’s adding their SSN for the first time.

If an existing Verified user does attempt to modify or remove their Social Security Number, they will be alerted via onscreen notification saying their ID “Verified” status will become “Unverified” if they save the change.

Note: This notification of verification status change already exists today for changes to other student account information. Adding changes to the SSN to this workflow will strengthen our fraud prevention efforts.

Quick Facts:

  • A change to a Verified- or Staff-Verified-user’s Social Security Number will prompt a notification to display in the Edit Account flow

  • The notification alerts the Verified user that a change to their SSN will cause them to become Un-Verified

  • The notification reminds the user that Un-Verified users will be prompted to Re-Verify their identity through the California DMV or IDme

  • The notification only displays to Verified users during the Edit Account process

  • The notification will display before changes are saved

  • The notification does not display if the SSN is being added for the first time.
