Release Summary

New ID Verification Option: CA DMV Wallet

Under the direction of the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, a new third-party identity verification service has been implemented as another option alongside the existing IDme verification service. The CA DMV Wallet mobile Driver’s License (mDL) service offers students a direct, self-service identity-proofing option as they enter the CCC system.

How does it work?

The new DMV Wallet option for identity verification works very similarly to the existing ID.me verification process. As far as our internal processes, the new DMV option will behave the same as IDme in terms of the user interface screens, the workflows, and the data collected. The verification workflow statuses will function the same way, regardless of vendor source.

Are new data fields being implemented for the DMV Wallet option?

Yes. We are taking this opportunity to implement a new set of generic identity verification data fields in our system, which will facilitate the addition of more identity verification services from vendors as needed. For this DMV Wallet verification implementation, we have added three new “verification” fields that mirror the current format and values of the existing IDme verification data fields. These new fields will capture both the new DMV Wallet verification values and the IDme verification values. To give colleges time to transition to the new generic identity verification fields, we will keep the IDme-specific identity verification fields for six months after the new, generic fields are released into production. After six months, the IDme-specific identity verification fields will be deprecated.

To keep the current ID.me verification fields in sync with the new generic identity verification fields, we will be populating your existing ID.me verification fields with both DMV and ID.me verification values. The new generic fields will also include verifications from both systems: CA DMV Wallet and ID.me. Both sets of fields will deliver the current verification information for the student. By implementing the new fields in this way, colleges will not have to immediately update their custom processing of the Superglue SIS staging tables in order to ingest the new fields immediately.

What are the new generic fields?

There are four new generic “verification” fields. Three of the four will clone the format and values of the existing IDme fields, and one new field called ID Verification Source Identity which will indicate the vendor source for the student’s verification: DMV or ID.me.

Below is a snapshot of the new generic fields which will be populated with values from both DMV and ID.me verifications.

New fields in the CCCApply Report Center: The new generic verification fields - including the new Verification Source field - are being added to the CCCApply Report Center in this release.

What do colleges need to do to get the new fields?

As a reminder, colleges do not have to do anything immediately to continue getting student verification information regardless of which verification vendor option is chosen by the student. For the first phase of this integration, both the new generic fields and your existing IDme verification fields will deliver verification status information following the production release. This includes DMV Wallet verifications and IDme verifications.

To add the new fields…

However, to update your system to get the new generic fields (recommended) - or at a minimum, to get the new “ID Verification Source” field that identifies which vendor the student verified with - you will need to update your Superglue schema to v.5.3.0 or higher.

Reminder: With this release, your existing IDme verification fields will immediately deliver verification values for both DMV Wallet and IDme verifications. This facilitates a quick and easy implementation for colleges as there will be no downtime between your Superglue schema updates.

Pilot Testing: DMV Wallet Verification Process

The Pilot environment is a sandbox environment for colleges to preview upcoming releases and test custom configurations.

Following the deployment of the new CA DMV Wallet verification pilot release, colleges are encouraged to preview the changes in their college’s pilot environment, a sandbox for college testing. No formal college training or testing activities are scheduled during the pilot preview period; however, colleges are encouraged to provide feedback to your College Experience Manager (CEM) or get support from the CCCTC Staff Support team.

Getting to the Pilot Environment

Colleges may review the changes using the CCCApply pilot test college.

Alternatively, you may navigate to your college-branded pilot application by replacing the last three digits of the link above (ZZ1) with your unique college MIS code. Remember to update both the link text and the URL.

Steps to Test
