Steps for Using the CA DMV Wallet App for Account Recovery
If you do not have a California DMV Wallet account, set up your account by following the instructions on the California DMV Wallet page.
From the CCCApply Sign In page, click the “Forgot Your Password?” link to display the Recover Your Account screen.
Click on the Verify with DMV Wallet button in the left side Recover with California ID box. This is the recommended option for self-service account recovery. The QR code page displays.
Download the CA DMV Wallet app to your smart phone from one of the suggested App stores listed at the bottom of the page. Open the app and scan the QR code.
This will verify your identity with the California DMV and redirect you to the Update Password page.
Create a new password on the Update Password page and click Submit to save the change. You will be redirected to the CCCApply Sign In page.
Can’t recover using CA DMV?
If recovering your account with CA DMV Wallet does not work, the Recover Your Account screen will display an error message at the top of the screen stating, “Account retrieval failed with DMV information. Please try a different method.”
Use the alternate account recovery flow by clicking on the Continue with Personal Information button and entering personal information until your account can be found.
