Best Practices for Local Colleges doing Apply outreach
Greetings,
We’re pleased to support your college’s enrollment outreach and share best practices developed by the CCC Tech Center to ensure a smooth experience for students during application fairs and enrollment labs.
Many students encounter issues logging into or recovering their OpenCCC accounts—especially if they already have an account but don’t remember their credentials. These issues can prevent them from completing the CCCApply application on-site. The guidance below will help you and your partner high schools proactively address common challenges and ensure students maintain account access beyond high school.
Technical Preparation for Application Labs
To reduce technical barriers during high school-based application events:
Browser Requirements: Ensure Google Chrome is installed on student laptops. (Our systems are tested against Chrome.) Do not use a virtual private network (VPN), or you’ll receive a proxy error message.
Cookies Enabled: Cookies must be enabled in the browser for OpenCCC and CCCApply to function properly.
IP Allowlisting: Request that the high school district provide their public IP address(es) at least two weeks prior to the event. This helps:
Exclude the IP from Captcha rules, reducing login friction during the lab.
Avoid potential firewalls or security conflicts.
Note: The IP(s) should be submitted by an IT staff member from your college or district, who can also be available during the event for any troubleshooting.
Submitting IP Information
Once IP addresses are obtained, a college staff member should email the following to:
staffsupportccctc@openccc.zendesk.com
Public IP Address(es)
Name of the High School or Campus
Student Email Guidance
Students should use a personal email address (e.g., @gmail.com, @yahoo.com) when creating their OpenCCC account.
Avoid using high school-issued emails or internet provider domains (e.g., @comcast.net, @att.net).
If a high school email is used, students should be advised to update it to a personal address before graduation.
Additional Tips
Spam Folder Monitoring: While IP allowlisting helps, some application-related emails may still be filtered as spam. Please ensure someone is monitoring the spam folder during the event.
Pre-Event Login: Encourage students to log into their existing OpenCCC account before the event to recover credentials in advance.
Account Identity Verification: If a student's personal information doesn’t match OpenCCC records, our support team must speak directly with the student to confirm their identity.
We appreciate your collaboration and look forward to supporting your enrollment events and the CCC student journey.
