  • Review proposed data source list

The Advisory Group reviewed the data source prioritization list developed by the DW Advisory Group in 2020/21. Following is a summary of the proposed data sources discussed.

  • EDD wage file. Erik noted this would require a very different agreement to allow sharing through the DW

  • SCFF. It was discussed that while these data may be accessed through data-on-demand, it was still a high priority for some participants. Erik Cooper spoke of possibility of adding to workplan if a priority, and have MIS team move the files to be migrated to the DW.

  • UC & CSU cohort files. Erik Cooper to look at the data sharing agreements, would be unable to share the transfer bucket in its entirety. Members spoke of interest in using these data for validation.

  • Apportionment attendance report. Erik spoke of effort to get reported MIS version closer to what is reported in the 320 report. Was decided to remove as a priority.

  • Perkins. Determined to be helpful but not important.

  • Strong workforce. Discussed as a regional collaboration to coordinate and share data regionally. Erik Cooper spoke of possibility of migrating to the DW after WestEd has implemented new report.

  • Pell grant. Determined to be of les importance.

2
  • Recommendations from DW survey:
    #1 Expansion of available datasets

  • This conversation occurred in the previous agenda item.

3
  • #2 Integration with local data warehouse

  • Denice spoke of interest in accessing Canvas data in the CCC DW so that they do not need to bring these data to their local data warehouse.

  • Pam Mery mentioned that they are a large college and do not have a local data warehouse though sees value in integrating a local data warehouse to the CCC DW.

  • Gene Tjoa spoke of having a mature data warehouse. They moved from a homegrown SIS to Banner, with Banner there is a provided Data Lake and raw data sources.

  • Layheng Ting spoke of building a new data warehouse and interested in how to link that with the CCC DW.

  • Erik Cooper raised the question of whether colleges need a local DW if the common ERP is to happen.

  • Jason Makabali said that NOCC is in the process of implementing a data warehouse to replace one that was not being used and is no longer operation. They now work directly out of the production database(s) with linked connections to other production databases.

4
  • #3 Training support

  • Denice stated that Canvas data (CD2) would be a good training priority.

  • Also raised was training on connecting to the DW, including the direct connection to the DW, the tools to be used which may be different from on-prem tools, and querying the DW focused on where local tools may not work with the systemwide DW.

  • Pam noted that there is a lot of turnover in these offices. Training on the DW may not always bee a high priority given others and knowledge may not get transmitted.

  • Denice suggested leveraging the Vision and Resource center as a good place to put intro trainings and videos.

5
  • #4 Development of DW reports

  • Erik said that with an expansion of dual enrollment, may consider a report that looks at applicants by HS, to track dual enrollment efforts. Colleges get who enrolls and can run that report on their own from the report center but may find value in a good canned report.

  • There was discussion on the difference of reports in the Report Center and use of Data Mart as a resource and which may be best served for various reporting needs. Erik noted that Datamart reports come from MIS which does not have the HS data.

  • It was noted that the LGBT report in the CCC DW Report Center is being utilized less now that these data are being delivered through SuperGlue.

  • Denice suggested that Researchers like to query more than use these reports in relation to the DW.

  • Pam said that it would be helpful to look at at reports that can be created for the public and not just for Researchers, and that it is difficult for Researchers to use reports that do not have the underlying data.
