  • How are colleges currently using the data warehouse?

  • Erik Cooper spoke of use cases including feedback on STEM subgroups where the DW was able to help answer questions not available by other data products on their own; and using data sources in the DW including COCI and C-ID. Erik also spoke of utilizing Canvas data within the DW while at Sierra College. Erik also spoke to helping set up Chancellor’s Office staff outside of Research with access to the DW to access COCI data.

  • A member spoke of access to non-credit data in the DW which is limited elsewhere.

  • A question as asked about whether the DW would be replacing other tools, Erik made clear that it will not. Todd Hoig agreed and mentioned the possibility that data in the Data Lake can be leveraged to make existing tools more powerful, such as building new reports in Datamart that bridge other data sources like COCI or CID

  • Other members spoke of using COCI data in the DW, and trying to get Canvas data set up though were blocked at the District level. Mark mentioned that the CCC Tech Center is working on support for Canvas Data 2 which will bring in a richer data set to the DW once enabled.

  • Future of the DW Advisory Group

    1. Membership

    2. Topics

  • The group discussed the original objective for the Advisory Group and how that has changed over time.

  • It was decided that Erik Cooper will reach out tot eh RP Group and ask them to (i) reach out to current members to determine if they would like to continue, and (ii) identify new members to add to the group.

  • Each of the Research members will be asked to identify an IT counterpoint to broaden the representation of the Advisory Group to cover both Researches and the IT staff that supports Institutional Research.

  • This was spoken of as moving to a second phase for the DW Advisory Group.

  • The new membership will meet after July 1 with the May and June meetings to be canceled.

3
  • Testing the Replica

    1. CO projects

  • With the MOU complete this can be rolled out after July 1 to the new group.

  • Replica to be tested to see if results within it align to other areas of the DW, MIS data or the college specific data.

  • Erik noted that the developer of the replica DW changed changed how relationships connect certain data and would benefit from testing by college and district researchers before making these data more available through the DW.
