All students will have an identity verification status value associated with their CCCID. Verification may be completed through DMV Wallet, ID.me or through staff verification.

Initial Verification Status for OpenCCC Accounts

The current process strongly encourages students to verify their identity with DMV Wallet or ID.me at the time they create their OpenCCC account, before submitting a CCCApply application. Students who opt to not complete the verification process (decline to verify at that time) will have null (blank) values in the verification data fields delivered with their application data.

Similarly, existing or returning students who had an OpenCCC account prior to the integration with ID.me will have verification status of null (blank) stored in their OpenCCC account profile. In both of these cases, the student will have a verification status of “never verified” until they return and complete the verification process with DMV Wallet.  Students that successfully complete the verification process will have a verified status.

Status Change Workflows

The verification identity status workflows will change a student user’s verification status over time and from certain events that may cause a user’s status to change. If the system detects a user’s status change, the college is notified by way of the Identity Verification Status Change Report and/or through a change notification delivered by SuperGlue to the Events Table.

Status Changes from Account Profile Changes

A Verified or Staff Verified status will change if an update or change is made to any of the following fields in their OpenCCC Account Profile:

• First Name

• Last Name

• Date of Birth

• Social Security Number/Tax Identification Number

• Address

If a change does occur, the student’s current verification status will be set to Unverified and the student will encounter the Re-Verify Your Identity page upon their next OpenCCC or CCCApply sign in attempt. This will also happen if the status is set to Expired.

At all times, the student’s ID verification status is displayed at the bottom of their Account Profile page. 

Verification Status Data Fields & Status Change Notifications

In order to keep colleges informed of post-application-submission and account profile status changes, event-driven notifications can be delivered to the college to in two formats: 

• Identity Verification Status Report Identity Verification Status Change Report

• Events-driven status changes delivered to the Events Table via SuperGlue

These notifications will allow colleges to track the student’s current verification status for eligibility for financial aid and other fraud prevention activities.

Both status change notification vehicle delivery changes are slightly different formats and field names. For data element definitions and breakdowns to interpret each notification vehicle, see Verification Status Data Fields.

In the table below, note that there are two fields that contain the same data. This is a temporary solution to ensure colleges have a seamless experience with the new DMV Wallet data. In a future release, the verification fields will be the primary data source and the idme fields will be deprecated.

Regardless of the vehicle, the “status” field values are the same.

Verification Status Data Fields

Below are the three key data fields that are initially collected during the DMV Wallet identity verification process by users and passed to the college with the student’s CCCApply submitted application data.

The DMV Wallet Workflow Status field indicates the student’s verification workflow status at the time the student’s CCCApply Application is submitted. The field values are shown below:
