Update on CCC Data 2.0 release

CCC Data 2.0 Pilot:

• Deployed to Pilot Oct 2, 2020

• Several colleges involved and able to complete Pilot testing

• Very successful pilot

  • results were good, the feedback was excellent

  • Testing helped support implementation process

Pilot Activities:

• Testing included colleges installing a custom site-to-site VPN working in coordination with with our team

  • VPN is used to secure access to the data warehouse that data is only accessed through this direct connection.

• Pilot colleges connected their BI tools (either Tableau or Power BI) to the data warehouse

• Pilot testing also included colleges running direct queries using MySQL Workbench

• We were not able to test colleges ability to connect tables in the data warehouse to a local data warehouse as external tables, pilot colleges IT did not have bandwidth to support

  • As we continue to roll out direct connection, we look forward to engaging colleges to test and help us document this process

CCC Data 2.0 Production:

• Deployed to Production Jan 15, 2021

• Adoption of DW direct connect

  • 15 colleges working with our Enabling Services group and are in various stages of going live on direct connection to the Data Warehouse

  • 96 colleges are using the report server

Adoption of 2.1

• When released we will be providing instructions on how the district can work with our Enabling Services group to initiate having their Canvas data added to the Data Warehouse.

   • Denice Inciong: We have it by colleges but our district has access for connections to our SIS. But, the owners for us are the colleges.

   • Mark Cohen: The data comes across is based on the API key and is segmented by MIS code.

   • John Sills: Any district colleges that have their own instance they're all set up at the district level and those API keys are generated the district level so getting it set up, I think, initially would probably require a district type decision.

Discussion on a proposed survey for feedback on how colleges are accessing and using CCC Data Warehouse resources.

We currently have 96 colleges that have access to the Data Warehouse Report Server. The Tech Center is working on a survey of these users to better understand:

• How are colleges accessing data from the Data Warehouse?

• How would colleges like to connect to the data in the DW?

• How would colleges like to connect to the data in the DW?

• What are colleges doing with the data?

• What applications are colleges connecting with the Data Warehouse when using direct (ODBC/JDBC) connection?

Gathering feedback from advisory group to determine best approach on how to engage research community in providing this insight.

• Per Alex, CO has been running some page web page analytics against people accessing data mart and so we might have some data from that.
