Add New Tribes/Values to Apply
(Per list submitted from AIAN group and cross-checked with federal list, add all remaining/missing tribes/nations from the Federal Register of Recognized Indian Entities to our existing ethnicities in CCCApply). 2024: Updated Tribal Affiliation List
Add tribal names and assign new codes/values to the existing field: <race_ethnic_full> in CCCApply Standard/Noncredit db. The displayed names should appear in alphabetical order by default in the (new UI search/display functionality) when the student selects the “American Indian/Alaskan Native” race group in the Race/Ethnicity section.
NOTE: The approved Tribe name (and proper spellings) are listed in Column F. These full names/spelling should be displayed In the application.
See 2024: Updated Tribal Affiliation List :: FINAL FedRecognizedTribes :: column FNew Tribe values should be added to the <race_ethnic_full> field
No change to the existing format (comma separated codes) same field length, etc.
Add new tribe that is combination of deprecated (per discussion 2/2724):
Other American Indian / Other Alaska N. tive | 420 | Other American Indian / Other Alaska Native | New, used to identify Write In name |
Tribe 420 will not appear on valid values as possible selection, but will added to the race_ethnic_full behind the scenes (code) when the user enters a manual write-in/custom tribal name.
Reference: Data Field Information
Add all new tribal codes/values to the existing database column named <race_ethnic_full> which saves all the values the user selects in the UI.
All new Tribe codes should follow the existing formats for the American Indian/Alaskan Native sections in:
Name/Field | Change / Action |
---|---|
Race Ethnic Full <race_ethnic_full> | No expected change to the max. expected field width/length Notes: This is the column race_ethnic_full that stores all new and existing CSV separated values for all the ethnicity selections (both the higher level race groups and the ethnicity sub groups). Example Format: "100,101,117,118,200,205,08,09,500,15,600,601,17,19,602,700,701,713,800,802,803" Maximum Expected Width: No change expected. 805 characters (201 * 3 character long values + 200 commas + 2 surrounding quote marks for CSV delimiting in the output format) |
Race Group <race_group> | No changes to this field. This field was intentionally left unchanged. Example Format: Apply: "04, 05, 08, 09, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20, 21", Maximum Expected Width: 80 characters (unchanged) (20 * 2 character long values + 19 commas + 19 spaces + 2 surrounding quote marks for CSV delimiting in the output format) |
Race Ethnic <race_ethnic> INTL: | No changes to this field. All new & existing Tribe codes continue to map to <race_ethnic>=position16 Tthis field was intentionally left unchanged Example Format: YNYNNNNYNNNNNNNNNYNNN Maximum Expected Width: 22 characters (unchanged) (22 character long string) |
Note: Ensure that the data stored in "hispanic", "race_group", and "race_ethnic" (Apply)/"race_ethnicity" (Intl) remains unchanged.
NOTE: Until COMIS SB39 is updated to capture all new db values, all new codes added to <race_ethnic_full> will map to Other American Indian or Other Alaskan Native on the college’s side for <race_ethnic>. They will get all the new 3-digit codes/values we are adding in <race_ethnic_full> but they will have to manually map these to existing Other positions in SB39.
Database Storage Scheme
Leave the database storage scheme the same for race_group, race_ethnic, hispanic, race_ethnic_full
Store the mapped record and exact format that is in place today so that colleges don't have to adjust their imports and so that MIS can still get the format that is in place today.
Keep all existing codes (db values) for existing Tribes; assign and add new codes for each new Tribe being added (see full list)
No changes are being made to existing race/ethnicity data fields/formats - other than updating for list of names and codes.
Update DED with new and updated Tribes and data codes/values
