CENIC Add-on / Fee-for-Services Catalog

The following services are provided by CENIC at an additional cost to the California Community Colleges as associate members of CalREN. For more information on any of these services, contact the CCCTC and CENIC Project Managers to schedule a meeting to discuss. The System-Supported CENIC Services Catalog outlines all circuit services paid on behalf of the colleges. CENIC Rapid Private Interconnect (RPI)

RPI service provides CENIC members with a dedicated private connection to external peers at select major peering points.

CENIC Rapid Private Interconnect (RPI) Technical Features & Benefits:

  • Secure and dedicated connections.

  • Support for 1G, 10G, and 100G.

  • Leverages current investment in CENIC infrastructure.

  • Allows CENIC members to connect directly to any commercial providers at major peering points.

  • Meant to be combined with Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN services.


Internet2 DDoS Mitigation (DMS) Service

An on-demand cloud-based DDoS Mitigation Service (DMS) is available to CENIC members.

Internet2 DDoS Mitigation (DMS) Service Options:

Two service options are available to CENIC members:

  1. Self-service solution has direct interaction with Radware for mitigation managed by the member college district.

  2. Managed-service solution uses CENIC’s expertise and advanced tools to detect and handle mitigation with Radware on behalf of the member college district.

Internet2 AL2S

Internet2’s Layer 2 Service delivers a strategic advantage for leaders in research and education by providing effective and efficient point-to-point Ethernet technology.

AL2S Technical Features & Benefits:

  • Allows users to create their own VLANs on the Internet2 AL2S backbone.

  • Static or Dynamic, point-to-point or multipoint, intra-domain or inter-domain>

  • Puts control of the backbone VLANs into the users’ hands for the creation of purpose-built private VLANs using infrastructure already in place.

  • Fully transparent to pass control packets.

 

Internet2 Cloud Connect

Extend your data center to the cloud with a dedicated network connection to software vendor services using the combination of your regional network and the Internet2 high-speed national network.

 

Internet2 Cloud Connect Technical Features & Benefits:

  • Provides institutions with a Cloud Connect Portal for researchers and campus IT staff.

  • Campus IT staff can deploy shared direct connection infrastructure on their own.

  • Ability to support private direct connections to AWS Direct Connect, Google Cloud Partner Interconnect, Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute, and Oracle Cloud Interconnect.

  • Four geographically diverse connection points ensure the best performance.

NOTE: The college district must pay for the equipment and installation costs for these circuits and bandwidth if higher than 5GB is needed. Currently, the ongoing monthly recurring service costs for connections 5G or less are free to Community College Districts. For 10G plus, the college district would also pay ongoing monthly recurring service costs on the circuit for as long as it is in production.


Internet2 InCommon & NET+ Services - Eduroam

Eduroam is a federated authentication service that allows participating institutions to provide access to their wireless networks to users from other eduroam participating institutions.

Eduroam Technical Features & Benefits:

Using your college's/district’s home institution credentials, provide your students, faculty, and staff with seamless access to global roaming Wi-Fi. Eduroam users can open their laptops and be connected at participating organizations on any eduroam network worldwide.
