A brief explanation of versioning and what the different numbers indicate.

Should you be interested....There are several different ways to refer to changes made to software. You may or may not have heard us refer to changes as bug fixes or feature releases or major/mini releases. Sometimes we also refer to the C-ID you use today as C-ID 2.0 and call the previous system 1.0 or the legacy system. In an effort to simplify all of these different labeling options, releases will now be posted with a version number as the reference point. We are starting this with 2.9, deployed on 1/29/2019.

Version numbers are incremented as follows:

First Position Number:  MAJOR defined as a significant number of new features and/or an underlying infrastructure upgrade require. These are big releases with big changes.

Second Position Number: MINOR as defined by limited to no new features introduced, primarily focused on escalated support fixes and/or issues detected by the tools we use to monitor the performance of the website.

Third Position Number: PATCH/HOTFIX as defined by the deploy of less than a handful of issues which are so critical in nature that the site is or nearly is non-usable for one or more primary user roles.
