Election of 2018-2019 Steering Officers
The election of 2018-2019 CCCApply Steering Committee Officers is in-progress. The offices of Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary are elected by nomination and district vote.
In May 2018, the committee voted on
A description of the offices were provided in the survey.
However, the election of the Vice Chair and Secretary was deferred from the June 13 meeting for the following reasons:
- Nominees must accept the nomination before we can vote them into office.
- Only one vote per District will be counted (per the Bylaws)
- The Chair and Vice Chair offices must be an Admissions & Records representative from your District.
Therefore, the decision was made to defer the election of the Vice Chair & Secretary to the next meeting - which will be held in-person at Riverside's NorCo College on July 25.
- Mitch Leahy - Santa Rosa
- Leigh Ann Unger - Rio Hondo
- Michael Ward - Rancho Santiago CCD
- Tuyen Nguyen - Rancho Santiago CCD
- Richette Bell - Compton College
Chair and Vice Chair Offices Must Be from Admissions & Records
Michael Ward from Rancho Santiago CCD sent the following message with his response to "decline" his nomination for the office of Vice Chair.
<< Start email message from Michael Ward, June 22, 2018 >>
I decline the nominations.
For Vice Chair, technically the VC could be an IT person since that position does not require it to be an A&R person but since the Steering Committee Bylaws mention the VC succeeds as Chair but to be Chair that is not A&R then a two-thirds vote would be required to waive that requirement. I guess the IT person could simply decline the automatic succession to become Chair at end of VC term but it probably makes more sense to have an A&R person for that position anyways.

Link to survey results: 2018-2019 Steering Officers Election Survey Results
The way the survey was done didn't take in to consideration that only ONE vote per District should be counted. However, we discussed as a committee and decided that the number of votes for Michelle Pena for Chair was sufficient enough to confirm this appointment here and now. Michelle accepted the nomination and position.
However, the committee decided to defer the appointment of Vice Chair and Secretary because several of the nominees were not present for this meeting. Send out survey to collect votes. One vote per district.
Election of CHAIR was confirmed: Michelle Pena, Bakersfield College
