Problem Statement or Business Need
The Yuba College Admissions Office is discussing the acceptance of the HISET exam the same as we accept GED passing.
This has brought up some questions regarding the current online application. Please answer the following questions for us:
Does the current application have an area where a student can indicate they have successfully completed the exam? Possibly in the same area as the student is asked about successful completion of the GED?
I wish to formally submit a request to have this issue addressed at one of the upcoming steering meetings.
Subject description: Addition of HiSET and TACS questions be included in the same area where the GED completion question is asked. This issue will affect all colleges, since CDE will now accept HiSET and TASC results.
According to the regulations on academic qualifications to receive FSA funds,
"A student qualifies if she:"
* "has the recognized equivalent of a high school diploma, such as a general educational development or GED certificate or other state sanctioned test or diploma-equivalency certificate;"
Recognized equivalents of a high school diploma
* " a certificate or other official completion documentation demonstrating that the student has passed a state-authorized examination (such as the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET), or, in California, the California High School Proficiency Exam) that the state recognizes as the equivalent of a high school diploma (note that certificates of attendance and/or completion are not included in this qualifying category);"
California Department of Education has approved the HiSET and TASC as high school equivalency tests which is in addition to the GED test. http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/gd/
I have also attached documentation to support the need to include these new tests as a part of the application process.
Thank you for consideration to add this item for discussion at your next steering meeting.
Respectfully,
Anita Mann

Proposed Solution
9/22/15: This request was approved by Steering at the 9/22/15 meeting; however the solution will not specifically call out the HISET or TACS tests in the changed. The committee voted to revise the existing HS Ed Level response (#4) with generic language to account for other/future certified GED equivalent tests.
The CCCApply Steering Committee approved a change request that will revise one of the response values in the High School Education Level field. The committee voted to revise the existing HS Ed Level response (#4) with generic language to account for other/future certified GED equivalent tests.
The language that was approved appears below:
Update value #4 of High School Education Level to: "Passed a high school equivalency test and received a certificate of high school equivalency."
- For (hs_edu_level), ensure the text has been changed and is displaying correctly for number 4 option to now read "Passed a high school equivalency test and received a certificate of high school equivalency."
