In cooperation between the AIAN Group has petitioned the CCCTC/CCCCO to expand our current list of AIAN ethnicities in CCCApply to the full Federal Register of Indian Entities Recognized list.

• Add/expand the list of the AIAN ethnicities with the full Federal Register of Indian Entities Recognized into the AIAN ethnicities

This expansion is limited to AIAN entities in this implementation. and the CCCCO, the current list of American Indian/Alaska Natives (AIAN) tribal affiliations is being expanded in CCCApply to include the full Federal Register of Indian Entities Recognized which contains roughly 800 California state and national tribes.

To accommodate the addition of over 500+ names to our existing list of nearly 400 AIAN options, an enhancement to the user interface with a new “look-up” modal and optional “write-in” field will be made to the AIAN section of the Race & Ethnicity section of the Standard application.

The expansion is limited to the AIAN group; no other race group is being touched in this implementation and the impacts to existing data fields and delivery is minimal. , with no changes to existing data fields Existing list of names (pre-expansion) will need some updating/archiving, and the large set of additional entities will need to be added and mapped correctly to existing race/ethnicity data field(s). New UI implementation is needed to allow for easier search and selection of AIAN tribes, and the ability for students to “write-in” a tribe or nation that doesn’t appear will be added.

2024 AIAN Expansion Enhancement

• Expand the list of AIAN tribal affiliations in the Race & Ethnicities section of the CCCApply Standard/Noncredit application:

  • Update/correct the existing list of American Indian/Alaskan Native (AIAN) ethnicities (correct names, remove duplicates, discontinue tribes that are no longer recognized)

  • Add/expand the list of the AIAN ethnicities with the full Federal Register of Indian Entities Recognized into the AIAN ethnicities

  • Implement the ability for students to “write-in” up to 5 tribal names that do not appear in the expanded list

• Enhance the Race & Ethnicities section user interface in the Standard/Noncredit applicationwith new search & select modal for new and existing AIAN ethnicities.:

  • Implement ability for students to search, display, and select multiple AIAN ethnicities from the large expanded list

  • Changes pertain to the AIAN section of the Race/Ethnicity section (race group = 16 = AIAN)

• Update the Race & Ethnicity data fields to include the vast number of AIAN tribes:

  • Maintain all existing <race_ethnic_full> data values in DB, and add & document new values

  • Add new AIAN tribes and codes to the existing <race_ethnic_full> field

  • Add new “write-in” field(s) to DED

  • Minimal changes to existing data fields; minimal impact to colleges is critical
