Data Warehouse Advisory Group 2022 Goals

The Data Warehouse Advisory Group informs the use of the data warehouse to achieve the Vision for Success goals and system priorities. A 2022 priority is to develop reports out of the current data sets in the data warehouse that support these priorities.

Envisioning Chancellor’s Office Data Warehouse Discussion Questions:

  1. How is the data warehouse being leveraged (or not) in meeting with Vision goals and Student Success Metrics?

    1. Specifically, how are you using (or want to use) the data to fill in the gaps/research questions you have related to the VFS goals and SSM?

  2. How can the data warehouse be leveraged to identify, understand, and recover lost enrollment?

    1. Specifically, how do/could you use the DW CCCApply, Canvas, or COCI data to answer enrollment management questions in your college/district?

  • How to bring the data easily into the colleges own system for access and use? How to get around using Jasper report server? Each data set has its own connection using SQL and a database link

  • When the data sets are discrete it generates extra work to download csv and import into college. Using base tables is problematic- DW raw tables is overwhelming to some

  • Combining reporting views in common areas would be helpful- additional documentation and workflows could be helpful, subsets have not yet been requested for linking together

  • Data dictionary for student learning outcomes is not stored at the raw data level

  • LGBTQ data predates direct connect and new rules would need to be put in place in order to gather data

  • How to ensure local SIS is matching state level data?

  • VFS and SCFF data is being asked to be validated at the college level and it is difficult to pull the data- once a student is profiled as X they are always profiled as X.

  • Data use group may serve larger data discussions- potentially for next FY

  • Denice discussed the Chancellor’s Office had participatory governance group, Student Metrics Advisory Committee, that addressed more of the data use and metrics. Dr. John Hetts is currently looking at bringing this group back together this year.

  • Jenni Allen will send Denice the presentation from the CAIR conference on Graduation Initiative portal
