For Students: How to Claim Ownership of Your Account

Claiming Ownership of an Account Created by a College

For students without internet access, your home college will create an OpenCCC account for you, with a temporary email and password for you to log in at a future date when you have internet access. With those temporary credentials, you can claim ownership through one of these two methods:

Claim Ownership Through CCCApply

Task

Steps to Complete

Navigate to your college’s CCCApply Application

  1. Find the CCCApply application link on your college’s website, or go to https://cccapply.org/, search for your college, then click Apply.

  2. From the Welcome page, click Sign In.

Sign in using the temporary email and password provided by the college

  1. Enter the temporary email address provided to you by the college.

  2. On the Password page, enter the temporary password provided to you by the college.

Reset your password

  1. If the Change Password page appears, update your password and save.

Update your email address in your account profile

  1. On the My Applications page, scroll down to the My Account section and click Edit My Account.

  1. On the Edit Account page, change the temporary email address provided by the college to your true and current email address. Confirm the new email address.

  1. Ensure the Preferred Method of Contact field is set to Email.

  2. Ensure your name, address, birthdate and other information are current and accurate.

  3. Answer the Social Security Number/taxpayer identification number question. If you select Yes, add in your Social Security Number.

  1. Click Save.

  2. In the upper right corner of the page, click Sign Out.

Validate your email address with security code

  1. Return to the Sign In page and use your updated email email address to log in.

  2. On the Password page, click the “Forgot your password?” link to reset your password.

  3. On the Forgot Your Password? page, select the option to receive your security code by Email, then click Next.

  4. Retrieve the six-digit security code from your email account (sent from the California Community Colleges).

  5. Return to the Validation Code page and enter the six-digit code. Click Next to continue.

  6. With the verification process complete, go to the Change Password section and enter a strong, new password. Confirm the new password. Save, then Sign Out.

Submit a new application

  1. Sign in to return to the My Applications page in CCCApply.

  2. Complete and submit a new CCCApply application.

Sign in to OpenCCC

  1. From the OpenCCC Sign In page, enter the temporary email address provided to you by the college.

  2. On the Password page, enter the temporary password provided to you by the college.

Reset/Change Password

  1. If the Change Password page appears immediately, please update your password. If it does not appear, continue to the next step of updating your personal information.

Edit your account profile information

On the Edit Account page, update the following fields:

  1. Change the temporary email address created by the college to your actual email address. Confirm the new email address.

  2. Ensure the Preferred Method of Contact field is set to Email.

  3. Ensure your name, address, phone number, and birthdate are current and accurate.

  4. Click Save.

Validate your updated email address

  1. If you did not change your password in the steps above, scroll to the bottom of the Edit Account page and select Change Password.

  2. Once the password is changed, click Save.

  3. When the verification process is complete, go to the Change Password section and enter a strong, new password. Confirm the new password.

  4. Click Save.

  5. In the upper right corner of the page, click Sign Out.

Recovering a Forgotten Password

  1. From the OpenCCC Sign In page, click Forgot your Password.

  2. Enter your birthdate and last name.

  3. In the email or mobile phone field, enter your preferred method of contact.

    1. NOTE: if you reach this page from CCCApply, the field may say Username. Use your email address as your username.

  4. A security code will be sent to your email account or your mobile phone. Retrieve the six-digit security code (sent from the California Community Colleges). If you do not see the email, check your Spam folder.

  5. Return to the OpenCCC Validation Code page and enter the six-digit code. Click Next to continue.

  6. The Update Password page will appear. Enter your new password the New Password and Confirm Password fields, then click Submit.

You will now be able to log in using your new password.
