CCCApply - Focused on Success: Mapping the Road Ahead

Featuring a range of topics and speakers covering the year in review and the roadmap ahead. Break-out sessions are offered in three tracks including topics for new and experienced Admissions & Records staff; IT Best Practices & Report Center Training; and a track dedicated to looking at the roadmap for 2017-2019 (and beyond, in some sessions) where we can explore new projects and statewide initiatives, including MyPath, the Student Services Portal, and Project Glue.  Geared towards California Community Colleges.

Pamela D. Walker, Ed.D.
Vice Chancellor of Educational Services

Dr. Pamela D. Walker serves as vice chancellor for educational services at the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and leads the divisions of Academic Affairs, Student Services and Workforce and Economic Development.

Dr. Walker is a highly regarded educational leader with experience as a faculty member and administrator in the K-12 system, multiple four-year university systems and in the California Community Colleges. She came to the Chancellor’s Office from American River College after spending 12 years in positions as the dean of science and allied health, associate vice president for instruction, vice president for student services and interim president. At Cerritos College, she was the dean of heath, physical education, recreation, athletics and dance and interim dean of admissions and records. She also held the position of associate commissioner for the California Community College Athletic Association. Prior to her tenure in the California Community Colleges system, Walker worked at both public and private colleges and universities.

Dr. Walker received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Oregon State University in LaGrande, master’s degree from California State University, Sacramento and doctoral degree in Organization and Leadership from the University of San Francisco.

BOG Fee Waiver Application: Implementation & QA Session

Explore the online BOG Fee Waiver Application and participate in a Q&A session with experts from the CCC Chancellor's Office.

This session will discuss the application for new users, review the new changes implemented in the 2017-2018 BOG application, and provide a high-level overview of the implementation project.

Bryan Dickason, financial aid specialist from the Chancellor's Office, is presenting this session, and can answer your questions about the fee waiver requirements and BOG legislation.

  • Discuss the changes and requirements for 2017-2018 BOG Year, implemented in the annual update release on March 31st;
  • Breakdown the new AB 801 Homeless Youth legislation as it pertains to financial aid
  • How to get started on the IT project implementation (schedule a kick-off meeting with the Tech Center)

Audience:  This session is geared towards Financial Aid and IT staff, but is appropriate for anyone interested in the online BOG Fee Waiver application.

Designing the Next Version of the CCCApply International Application: Round-Table Discussion & Interactive Workshop Session

Join the CCCApply product management team and members of the CCCApply Steering Committee for an interactive round-table collaborative for the purpose of gathering requirements for the next iteration of the CCCApply International Application - on the 2018-2019 development roadmap.

Discussion Points:

  • Identify key stakeholders for user stories
  • Identify volunteers for requirements sub-committee
  • Survey workshop participants to gather diverse perspectives on multiple issues
  • Increase adoption of the existing International Application to ensure continued support at the CCCCO and state levels
  • Conduct post-workshop interviews with attendees

Audience: Geared towards staff and administrators who are interested in collaborating, sharing, and designing the next iteration of the CCCApply International Application. CCCApply Residency Algorithm 101: Presentation / Q&A Panel

Join members of the CCCApply Steering Committee and residency experts from the CCC Chancellor's Office for a presentation and Q&A session on the CCCApply residency algorithm and how it calculates the “preliminary” residency determination status and the AB540 eligibility status.

We'll breakdown the four residency logic areas (A-D), which are calculated separately first, and then combined to calculate the overall residency status. We'll also discuss how the Integrity Flags are used to alert Admissions staff about residency status and priority registration indicators.

CCCApply 2017 Annual Update and Roadmap Review

Join CCCApply Product Manager, Patty Donohue, and members of the CCCApply Steering Committee, for an overview of the approved change requests, new feature enhancements, logic changes and data fields, recently deployed in the CCCApply 2017 Annual Update on March 31st.

We'll also take a look at everything that's been implemented since the 2016 annual release, including technical updates (Shibboleth IdP V3 upgrade), security fixes, and user experience upgrades to address workflow and account recovery issues.

Attendees will walk away with information and answers to questions such as, “How will these changes affect my job in Admissions?

Do I have to update any of our admissions forms or current processes due to these changes?

What new data fields are being added to the application and what does our IT staff need to do to update our student information system?”

Audience: This session is always popular with staff who rely on the CCCApply data for residency, financial aid, research, MIS reporting and other student support needs.

IT & REPORT CENTER TRACK

Basic Report Center Training

An introduction to the basic features and functions of the CCC Report Center, this session - geared towards new and experienced users - will share best practices and tips for analyzing your CCCApply data quickly in a user-friendly, web-based environment.

After a brief overview of the Home page, Library and main navigational menus, we'll explore the Repository - a hierarchical structure of public and private folders where administrators and users create and store resources for running & creating reports.

At the end of the session you'll walk away knowing how to:

  • Use the Application Look-Up reports to easily search and retrieve submitted applications by last name, social security number (last 4 digits), or submission date. We will also discus
  • Run reports from the Repository or the Library
  • Build custom (ad hoc) reports from submitted application data
  • Run, customize and export reports using filters and sorting capabilities
  • Schedule recurring reports for print or email
  • Set permissions on reports, views and folders

After the session, the computer lab will be open for attendees that want to explore some of the tips and tricks learned in the session. 

Audience: This session is geared towards new and experienced users of the CCC Report Center.

Best Practices: Creating Accessible Documents & Web Pages

Web page and document accessibility is a central aspect to ensuring students with disabilities have access to institutional materials and academic content. Authoring and development techniques that include accessibility best practices for websites and documents reduce the need for remediation and provide students with greater access to institutional information. The CCC Accessibility Center offers a variety of tools and resources to support community colleges in evaluating websites and fixing PDF documents.

Advanced Report Center Training: Creating Ad Hoc Views

Back again this year by special request, join the developers and support engineers who manage the OpenCCC and CCCApply data and report templates in the CCC Report Center.

We'll explore advanced topics including building cross tab reports using multiple filters, creating charts, and scheduling recurring reports using relative date filters.

Other topics and features to be explored:

  • Using the relative date filter for scheduling recurring reports and views
  • Setting permissions on reports, views and folders
  • Using conditional formatting feature to highlight, analyze and resize reports
  • Visually design reports by dragging, positioning, aligning and resizing report elements
  • And much more...

After the session, the computer lab will be open for attendees that want to explore some of the tips and tricks learned in the session.

More and more criminal hackers have found the easiest way to compromise an organization is through the end users. This presentation will explore some of the ways criminals attempt to trick employees at colleges and what you can do, to not become a victim.

PREVIEW: New CCC Administrator 2.0 Demo

Join us for a sneak peek of the new CCC Administrator 2.0 tool - under development now to serve as the new "master administrator tool" for all new web applications currently under-development at the Tech Center.

The new Admin 2.0 will leverage commonly shared data elements, such as Terms, Majors, and User accounts, to streamline the configuration process across CCCApply, Course Exchange, Common Assessment, and more.

This preview will focus on two upgraded components of the existing CCCApply Administrator: the Supplemental Questions module and the Majors module. Designed to simplify the creation of supplemental questions and data fields, Admissions staff can now create new questions quickly and easily with a new user-friendly drag and drop interface and standard WYSWIG editor.

The new Majors module includes functionality to align programs and majors to Education Goals, or structure the display of majors in a classic tree configuration.

Additional new features include:

  • Easy sorting of Terms and Majors
  • A new CIP code field in the Majors module
  • A cross-functional College Messaging Editor
  • and more...

Forecasted to launch in September 2017, we'll wrap up the session with a review of the migration and release plan.

What do Canvas, the Course Exchange, CCC MyPath portal and CCCApply have in common? Aside from being elements of student success programs in the California Community Colleges (CCC), they all involve massive amounts of data.

Data which, if synchronized between these and other applications among 113 colleges systemwide, would create a seamless continuum of technology offerings designed to help the CCC increase student completion rates and reduce the overall cost of educating more than 2 million students each year.
