12:56:15 From Shar to Lori Lisowski(Direct Message) : Thank you Lori for hosting this circulation meeting this afternoon! The sessions are so helpful! 12:56:40 From Shar : Thanks! 12:57:49 From Shar : Lassen 12:58:00 From Shar : Susanville 12:58:06 From Shar : 55 miles from Lassen Natl Park 12:58:16 From Shar : 90 minutes from Reno 12:58:22 From Shar : It reminds me of home...Montana 12:58:41 From Nikki Crane : hi! 12:58:56 From Shar : LTCC is always helpful for us 12:59:15 From ccruse@shastacollege.edu : Hello! 12:59:19 From Jose Santos : hello 12:59:26 From Shar : Amen on their presentation 13:00:46 From Shar : I was at my primary physician (Loma Linda) today & he shares CDC's prediction that the next four to eight weeks will be tough. 13:01:21 From Shar : Lassen County has 297 confirmed cases in town (Susanville) and over 850 amongst the three prisons (two state & one federal)...figures not updated today. 13:01:38 From Shar : Lassen Co has 30,000 numbrs 13:01:47 From Shar : population not numbers 13:02:46 From Shar : LCC Library was open until last Monday. Now we meet folks at our door, one on one. 13:04:45 From Shar : It was interesting that often only the Library was open, not tutoring, admissions, financial aid, counseling, etc. They however would serve via phone, email or Zoom 13:07:11 From Jaimie Jordan : Antelope Valley College (north end of Los Angeles County) staffs a classroom in a parking lot on the edge of campus M-Th 8am-3pm. Students can submit a form to request physical materials and pick them up at that classroom. They can also return materials there during those hours. 13:08:01 From Jaimie Jordan : We have staff in the library for some periods of that same time frame to fulfill requests, handle ILLS (I believe we're only receiving materials we had loaned in Spring, not fulfilling requests), etc. 13:08:52 From Jaimie Jordan : Our systems librarian is working on getting booking appointments set up in Alma, so hopefully that will be up and running for pickups in the near future. 13:09:09 From Jaimie Jordan : We haven't heard about any of this changing for Spring. 13:10:08 From Shar : Like Chanthara, we did our own cleaning due to lack of staffing. LCC Library just got their first FT technician 6 weeks ago. Tina is awesome. We only had one desktop and printer available for use (nursing students). All others were coming in to borrow Chromebooks (150), 90 hotspots, semester long as well as overnight textbook loans, calculators, DVDs, etc. A lot of students and staff call or email ahead of time to check on availability. So it has been Tina and me trading off this semester. Now we're remote and meeting folks at the Library door. 13:11:46 From Efrain Villanueva : we will continue working remotely through the Spring and possibly summer. we will continue to have curbside pickup for library materials and instructing students to use use the curbside book drop. 13:14:18 From Shar : We use carts to set returned items for 72 hours. Tina & I are cleaning all the electronic items and laminated materials upon their return. We try & keep up with CDC recommendations as well as ACRL and you folks as to be safe for everyone. 13:15:30 From Shar : LCC's policies are examined daily so we will be closed for sure through December 31. Rumor has it slow reopening of campus services in March. 13:18:45 From Shar : We at Lassen are blessed with numerous loanable items and fairly "low enrollment". Plus we have access to EOPS textbooks! 13:20:52 From Shar : https://www.ifla.org/covid-19-and-libraries 13:21:25 From ccruse@shastacollege.edu : Shasta also took on EOPS textbooks which helped a lot 13:23:02 From Shar : There is nonetheless emerging research (in the New England Journal of Medicine, and the Journal of Hospital Infection) into the survival of the virus, both in the air and on different types of surface. It appears that it survives for longer on plastics and steel, and for less long on cardboard or copper, although these tests took place in laboratory conditions and infection... 13:24:01 From Jaimie Jordan : @Paula- what method(s) do you guys use to reach out to students about your services? 13:24:41 From Carmen Mexia : So are they putting books in lockers to check out? OR WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE LOCKERS? 13:25:36 From Lisa Brlas, Grossmont College : I believe the lockers are for no contact pickups. 13:26:00 From Shar : Luckily, about 25% of our instructors are using OER textbooks. 13:26:08 From Paula : We are still figuring everything out. Faculty was notified that students will have access to the lockers. The main idea is to promote with the faculty first. 13:26:11 From Carmen Mexia : Thank you….pick ups 13:28:23 From Shar : And has Lori has said, "New research changes our practices." 13:28:27 From Carmen Mexia : Do students get times to pick up 13:29:29 From Carmen Mexia : Thank you 13:31:44 From Camille Hughes : When the chance arises, I have a rather complex question regarding terms of use and overdue fines and fees that was first asked by Debora Moore from Cerritos College 13:32:39 From Shar : My two deans, Tina & I researched and brainstormed how we would handle resources & services. We also looked at how local stores, such as Safeway & Walmart, are doing business. Masks are mandatory; the Library serves one student or staff member at a time. In August we utilized six to ten feet distancing. Now with the closure again we encourage phone, text, or email. Publicity is straightforward via Facebook; text messages; campus-wide email; and our ARC's website. 13:33:25 From Jaimie Jordan : @Shar - do your text messages go through Alma? 13:36:40 From Kymber Ensele - LTCC : We do have staff that are in distribution after the "official hours" and we have been making special arrangements for pick ups with Security. 13:36:44 From Shar : Sadly, no. We use a combination of our campus-wide system whereby a form is utilized with the information. Or I will send out text messages to groups (nursing; automotive; science; English; social services; etc.). Often instructors will advise to whom they want information given. 13:38:45 From Shar : Our ruralness allows campus staff (from administrators to instructors to staff to me) to often deliver items to a student's home. We have students in surrounding communities that are 30 to 60 minutes away. Recently 19 homes burned in Doyle and we have several students residing there. These students lost both their own college-related items as well as library and/or EOPS resources. 13:42:14 From Shar : Lassen does not have overdue fees. There are only charges if an item does not return within three months after its due date or if it is returned severely damaged aka unusable. 13:42:30 From Lori Lisowski to Shar(Direct Message) : Shar, I really appreciate everything you've been sharing in the chat. I will be saving the chat so I can look at everything more carefully afterward. It's hard to watch the chat and follow the conversation at the same time. :-) 13:43:02 From Shar to Lori Lisowski(Direct Message) : Thank you as I feel so new and lost. I would welcome your comments! 13:45:44 From Jaimie Jordan : At AVC we just installed a bookdrop a few weeks ago. It wasn't getting a lot of usage as I understand it, but I know that last week, we got several students dropping materials in it (registration started and we place holds on Banner accounts for overdue/lost items and students can't register until that is cleared). 13:49:05 From Shar : Our campus's bookdrop is being used as a safe & secure place for students to put their homework in! It is located in the main parking lot which is accessible by vehicle, foot & public busses. 13:49:15 From Efrain Villanueva : we’ve been instructed not to place holds on accounts 13:50:09 From Lori Lisowski to Shar(Direct Message) : Homework??!! 13:51:48 From Shar to Lori Lisowski(Direct Message) : Yes! homework!! There is a sign which someone placed saying "Not for library returns". I think someone knew the Library was accessible, and instructors were NOT on campus. Tina & I just laugh/smile. 13:52:08 From Miranda Tofte : We just recently used Cares money for two new laptop carts with UV lights so we can disinfect all laptops that have been returned to the library. We place all items that we get back in the laptop cart and run a UV cycle to disinfect them. 13:53:22 From Shar : MIT and a few SUNY campuses were/are using UV lights for electronics! 13:53:44 From Jaimie Jordan : I'll be back at 4 just to see what else comes up! :) 13:53:47 From Kacey Bullock : Thanks for hosting this! 13:53:58 From Jaimie Jordan : Thanks so much for offering this space. 13:54:11 From Shar : Yes, I too will hopefully just listen this time & thanks for hosting. And I sure learned a lot today, and I took notes. 13:54:27 From ccruse@shastacollege.edu : Thank you! 13:54:34 From Huda Shuhaiber to Lori Lisowski(Direct Message) : thank you so much 13:54:35 From Nikki Crane : Thank you! 13:54:38 From Efrain Villanueva : Great session. Thank you to everyone involved 13:54:42 From Shar : Thank you : -) 13:54:47 From Chanthara Soungpanya : Thank you everyone 13:54:51 From Jose Santos : Thank you! 13:54:51 From Lisa Brlas, Grossmont College : Good job! See you at 4 p.m. 13:55:03 From Carmen Mexia : Thank you
